#BringBackOurGirls
Hash Tag(#) Activism/Hacktivism
The hashtag #BringbackourGirls has become a global movement as an outrage after the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria by a group of Islamist Militant – Boko Haram. These girls were studying for their exams and in the middle of the night, a group of armed men ripped them from their beds. The hash tag movement has brought the world leader’s attention to the petrifying violence that has become routine in northern Nigeria over the last three years. It is also a slam to the mainstream medias who did not give coverage about this abduction till the hash tag movement became the global phenomenon.
“Boko Haram” means “Western education is sin.” The militant group is one of many groups who are threatening the efforts of girls worldwide to go to the school, and to change their circumstances. Those girls are forced to change their religion and marry instead of going to the school. About 50 of those girls, however were able to escape from being kidnapped. But, the question is, Will they be able to come over the mental trauma? Even if they go to school once again, Who is going to take the responsibility of those teens and Who can assure that those incident will not repeat again? The Boko Haram militant has announced that they are planning to sell those abducted girls.
Even though, lots of protests are being carried out all over the world, the Nigerian girls are not released yet. All the concerned bodies need to gain proper attention and necessary impact oriented action has to be taken as soon as possible before further damages happen.
